Installing, FAQ, Credits


INSTALLING

ATTENTION!!! The 'New Upgrades' patch was not thought of to be compatible with other unofficial patches (like a language patch or the Tournament Edition patch), however in *most* cases there is a possibility of using the New Upgrades as well as other patches. But in such a case, to eliminate errors and bugs in the New Upgrades it is necessary to install the 'New Upgrades' patch LAST, after installing all the others!!!. (Of course after that you can also install other NU patches such as 'new creature portraits' or 'new looks for 8 level creatures').

1. Installing without the possibility of 'unistalling'. If you don't want to return to your previous WoG version then simply download the patch file, place it in your game's Update folder (probaby 'c:/program files/3DO/heroes3/update') and run H3wUpd.exe. (You will probably have to change your system language settings to English/USA (control panel -- regional settings) before that.)

2. Installing with a possibility of 'uninstalling'. If you want to have a possibility to return to your previous WoG version then first reserve about 300 MB of space on your drive, and then do the following:

  • create an empty folder - just remember where.
  • go to your main Heroes3 folder (probably 'c:/program files/3DO/heroes3') and from there copy to your newly created folder the 'h3wog.exe' file.
  • next go to your data folder (probably 'c:/program files/3DO/heroes3/data') and from there to your folder copy the files 'h3bitmap.lod', 'h3sprite.lod' and the whole 's' folder.
  • After that install the patch like it is described in paragraph no. 1.

    3. "Uninstalling". If you want to return to your previous WoG version and have done backup copies of the above mentioned files, then now you only have to overwrite your current game files with the backup copies. NOTE, that in the case of the data/s folder it is best to first delete it and then place its' backup copy. However if you just replace the folders then after everything is ready go to your data/s folder and then find and DELETE every file beginning with 'script99'.


    FAQ

    1. The new creatures don't have all of their properties (f.e. the efreet rajah doesn't have Fire Shield)!

    Because of technical limits some special abilities had to be added at the 'zero' level of experience. So to solve this problem simply turn on the hard-coded option 'troop stacks gain experience'. I remind that it is NOT advised to install this patch if you don't play with stack experience turned on.

    2. What has a Silver Pegasus anything to do with a Sorceress ?

    It's the least logical upgrade in the game and it stayed for two reasons: firstly, no better idea was presented :P, secondly Rampart could use another shooter. Besides that you can finally get to see Sorceresses' spellcasting ability when you have a big stack of them :).

    3. Are there any new versions of the patch planned ?

    Maybe. It all depends whether the fans will want it. For now there's a plan for making a different script version, where there will be some upgrade changes with the usage of commanders as creatures.

    4. Does the AI use the new possibilities ?

    Yes. In a little different way than normal and with some handicap, but generally it can build the new buildings and upgrade creatures.

    5.Why after turning on the new script some other WoG scripts don't work? (f.e 'neutral town' or 'universal upgrades')

    Because it wouldn't make any sense. Those scripts work in an antagonistic way - that means that they interfere with each other. F.e. the troll in the 'neutral town' script is an upgrade of the werewolf and in the 'new upgrades' script he is an upgrade of the ogre magi. If both of those scripts were turned on then none of them would work correctly.
